Grow and Make: An Edible Kitchen Garden
Small space, big potential — begin the new year by cultivating your own edible kitchen garden! From perennial herbs, to microgreens, to a variety of veggies, growing even a single edible plant can inspire our meals and snacks, and create a meaningful connection to the food we eat. Instructors Carey Craddock and Jordan Kushins will share what plants do well in indoor and outdoor containers; teach seasonal planting tips; troubleshoot common problems; and offer creative ideas for your harvest. Everyone will get their hands dirty, sowing seeds and propagating cuttings to take home.
About the Grow + Make Series
This is part one of a four-part Grow + Make series led by Carey and Jordan this year. They are standalone sessions, but each will build on the last for repeat attendees. Stay tuned for upcoming classes:
• 4/25/26: Grow + Make: Spirited Botanicals — Preserve plants to make drinks that taste great and look amazing!
• 8/15/26: Grow + Make: Everything is Jewelry — Forage and design plant stuff (leaves and flowers, pods and wood) into uniquely ephemeral accessories.
• 12/5/26: Grow + Make: Botanical Print Cards and Presses — Learn to print holiday cards with fresh leaves and flowers, and put together a portable plant press to keep or gift!
Botanical Wreath Making
Get into the holiday spirit! SF Botanical Garden Members are invited to join us for our annual wreath making workshop and enjoy a delightful afternoon at the San Francisco Botanical Garden. Carey Craddock and Jordan Kushins will guide you through the process of creating a festive seasonal wreath utilizing locally sourced evergreens, eucalyptus, and botanical accents.
Whether it’s your first time making a wreath or you’re a seasoned DIYer, you’ll leave with a handmade creation that brings holiday cheer into your home. Many members return year after year, making this a beloved seasonal tradition. Savor light refreshments and warm wassail—a spiced cider tradition sure to make your spirits bright.
Your ticket includes fresh greenery, a 12” round wire wreath form, and paddle wire (with access to wire cutters). Please feel free to bring your own ribbon, bows, seasonal accents, or garden gloves to make your wreath truly yours. Children are welcome! Fun for ages 7 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult (18+).
